Forter adds fraud checks and checkout for AI shoppers

Forter’s 13 October announcement separates live agent-fraud protection from checkout orchestration. Merchants should verify access, integration and reporting.

Forter announced new Agentic Commerce Engine capabilities on 13 October 2026, combining fraud assessment for AI-assisted purchases with a way to manage the checkout those agents use.

The availability distinction matters: Forter says Fraud Management for Agentic is live for existing customers, while Agentic Orchestration is available to interested Forter customers. Merchants evaluating the announcement should confirm which part their account can use.

This is a Forter product announcement, not a Shopify-wide setting. Ask for confirmation of compatibility with your store, payment provider and order workflow before planning a rollout.

Identity and checkout are separate questions

In its product explanation, Forter describes identifying agent activity and connecting an agentic order to the person behind it. It says that activity can be viewed through its transaction grid, Prism and an AI activity dashboard.

The orchestration component offers a headless checkout route: an agent can transact through an integration rather than navigating the storefront like a person. Forter says merchants can connect loyalty programmes and set transaction conditions.

Forter also reports that agentic orders across its network have grown more than fourfold since August. That is a vendor-network observation, not a measure of the share of orders at a typical Shopify store, and it does not establish a conversion gain from adopting the product.

What to request before a pilot

Our suggested merchant review starts with a real order journey, including a failed payment and a cancellation. Ask who owns each step, which customer permissions are recorded, and where support staff can find the resulting order and risk decision.

  • Confirm supported payment methods, currencies, shipping calculations and refund handling for your configuration.
  • Ask how legitimate agent orders and suspected automated abuse are distinguished in reporting.
  • Agree how to compare approval rates, chargebacks and completed orders with the existing checkout.

Those checks are more useful than treating all automated traffic as either safe or fraudulent. For the discovery and product-data side, see our Shopify agentic commerce checklist.
