Kaching subscription streaks: when rewards apply
Check reward timing, existing subscribers and locked settings before activating a Kaching subscription streak.
A subscription reward needs two clear dates: when the customer earns it and when it reaches an order. In Kaching Subscriptions, completing a milestone unlocks a reward for the next subscription order. A reward earned after three successful orders therefore arrives on order four.
Kaching’s streak documentation describes discounts, gifts or a combination. Progress belongs to each subscription. For new subscriptions, the initial checkout counts; failed payments do not. Pausing or skipping preserves progress, while a replacement subscription after cancellation starts again.
Decide how existing subscribers join
The setup can exclude existing subscriptions, count only future orders, or include their past orders. Counting history can trigger rewards immediately. Where several milestones have already passed, the latest reached reward of each type applies rather than a backlog of earlier gifts or discounts.
Later streak discounts replace earlier ones rather than adding together. A discount can be limited to the next order or continue until replaced. Gifts are issued once after unlocking. Review the audience, counting option and ladder before publishing: those settings then lock, although customer messaging remains editable.
Write the customer promise first
Our suggested preparation is a small table with the qualifying order, the reward order, the gift cost and the resulting margin. Have another person read the customer-facing wording against that table. “A gift after three orders” can be interpreted differently from “a gift in your fourth delivery”; make the actual sequence clear.
Check a new subscription, an existing subscriber near a milestone and someone who pauses. Also inspect a customer with more than one subscription. Record the expected result before testing so a plausible-looking outcome does not hide a counting mistake.
Measure retention alongside the cost
Kaching’s cohort report groups subscriptions by their starting month. Compare cohorts at the same age, rather than comparing a mature group with subscribers who joined last week.
Our editorial recommendation is to track fulfilled reward cost and contribution margin alongside retention. A higher repeat-order count alone does not establish that the incentive pays for itself. Seasonal demand and acquisition changes can also affect the comparison.
