Klaviyo adds email tracking consent controls to forms
Marketing permission and open or click tracking are separate. Check the form choices, disclosures and default tracking behaviour before rollout.
Klaviyo has announced sign-up form controls for collecting email tracking consent alongside marketing consent. Its 15 October product post highlights the ability to measure engagement for subscribers who agree to tracking.
The practical distinction is between permission to send marketing and permission to record engagement. Treat this as a form and measurement change, not a promise that adding a checkbox makes every campaign compliant.
Where the controls live
Klaviyo’s current form documentation places Tracking consent under Add blocks → Marketing consent. Merchants can collect separate or combined permissions, selecting opens, clicks or both. Klaviyo warns that combined consent is not accepted in every EU country and directs merchants to their legal or privacy team.
Replace suggested disclosures and placeholders with approved wording, withdrawal instructions and your privacy link. Check the actual form layout before publishing.
Klaviyo says opting out of an open or click tracking type stops the corresponding events being recorded, without changing the recipient’s marketing subscription.
Test the experience and reporting
Our recommendation is to test each choice with controlled test profiles before a major list-growth campaign. Check the saved permissions, the withdrawal route and the resulting events. Include both desktop and mobile forms in that review.
Record when the change goes live. If your measured engagement changes afterwards, investigate the consent settings alongside creative and delivery factors before treating the movement as a change in customer interest.
