Klaviyo turns HTML emails into editable templates

Klaviyo can clone saved HTML emails into drag and drop templates. Here is where to start, what stays unchanged and what to check before sending.

Klaviyo announced on 15 October that saved HTML emails can now be converted into editable drag and drop templates. The product announcement covers imported, hand coded and AI generated HTML. For a marketing team waiting on a developer to make routine email edits, this offers a different handover path.

How the conversion works

According to Klaviyo’s guide, updated 13 October, start in Content → Templates → Email: saved. Open an HTML template’s menu and select Clone to drag and drop. Alternatively, save your changes in the HTML editor and use its conversion button. Template editing permission is required.

The process makes a separate editable copy and leaves the original intact. It can run while you leave the page. The Converted templates tab shows recent jobs and their status; processing stops after ten minutes if it has not completed.

ℹ️
Conversion is not a promise of identical rendering. Klaviyo warns that spacing and styling can differ, and an AMP version will not carry over.

Check the copy before sending

Klaviyo recommends comparing content, links, personalisation, dynamic sections and image alt text with the original, previewing desktop and mobile, and sending a test email.

Our recommendation is to pilot the conversion with one reusable campaign layout before moving a whole library. Give the converted copy a clear owner and record which version is approved for sending. That keeps a useful editing shortcut from becoming an accidental design migration during a busy campaign week.

For Shopify teams working with agencies, the practical question is who maintains the email after delivery. Ask for a reviewed editable copy alongside the source HTML, and agree who checks the next round of changes. Conversion reduces the need to rebuild blocks manually; it still leaves a review step.
