Riskified plans AI-agent identity checks for Shopify
Riskified plans a December enterprise beta for AI-agent identity checks, starting with Shopify. What is announced and what merchants can verify today.
Riskified plans to open Agent Identity Risk Intelligence to a limited enterprise beta in December 2026, with general availability expected in 2027. Its 8 October announcement describes checks intended to connect a consumer’s AI assistant with the person behind an order or support request.
The company says recognition will reach Shopify merchants first. Planned features include risk signals for purchases and refund requests, reporting by assistant in Control Center, and policies that route higher-risk claims for review. These are announced capabilities, rather than evidence of measured fraud reduction.
What Shopify merchants can check now
Shopify’s current guidance says orders from AI channels appear in the admin with channel or referrer attribution. Merchants retain the customer relationship and post-purchase experience.
Riskified says Muse orders already arrive marked as agent originated. The Shopify documentation reviewed does not specify a universal order-tag name or filter for that signal, so do not build a workflow around an assumed tag.
Our recommendation is to ask your fraud or helpdesk provider which agent signals it actually receives, how it distinguishes verified identity from inference, and what happens when no signal is available. Test those answers on a known order before automating a decision.
Keep authorisation and risk separate
Riskified positions the product alongside agent-authorisation protocols: permission to act for an account does not establish that every resulting request is legitimate. The company plans support for agent-based policies in Decision Studio and identity risk information in its Zendesk integration.
For a trial, agree the review process first. Identify who handles disputed refunds, retain the reason for each decision and compare outcomes with similar orders. An AI-origin label alone should not be treated as proof of fraud or a reason to promise automatic approval.
Existing Riskified customers can ask their account team about beta eligibility, integration requirements and reporting. The announcement does not establish access for every Shopify store today.
