Shopify improves Arabic, Urdu and Hebrew RTL support

Shopify’s language update covers admin, checkout, customer accounts and Horizon themes. Product translations still need their own review.

Shopify has improved right-to-left support for Arabic, Urdu and Hebrew across its admin and storefronts. The 2 October announcement names checkout, customer accounts and the Horizon family of themes. For teams serving these languages, it is a useful reason to review the whole buying journey.

Language support is not a completed translation. Shopify says display language follows device settings where available. Product pages and other merchant-owned content still use the languages you have enabled.

Review content as well as layout

Shopify points merchants to Translate & Adapt for product-page translations. Its official app listing describes a side-by-side editor for adding, editing and reviewing translations, plus adapting content for different markets.

A practical check before promoting the translated store

Start by adding the relevant language in your admin, as Shopify recommends. Then ask someone fluent in it to review a representative product and complete a test journey on a phone set to that language.

  • Check the product title, description and variant labels for meaning, not just translated words.
  • Review mixed-direction details such as numbers, email addresses and product codes.
  • Continue through the cart, checkout and customer account screens; record any confusing labels or layout problems.

That checklist is our editorial recommendation. The announcement specifically names Horizon themes, so do not assume it establishes compatibility for every third-party theme or embedded app. Check your actual storefront before widening a campaign.
