Shopify reports $3.8 billion in partner payouts for the year ending 30 June 2026 in The Entrepreneur Effect, its October 2026 report. It separately estimates $194.7 billion in economic activity associated with its partner ecosystem.

Across merchants and partners, Shopify estimates more than 9.6 million jobs supported and more than $1.2 trillion in global economic activity. All monetary figures are in US dollars.

Read the methodology with the headline

The payout total comes from Shopify’s records. Economic activity uses an input-output model informed by merchant and partner business activity and OECD supply-chain data, including direct, indirect and induced effects. Jobs supported is an ecosystem measure, not Shopify’s employee headcount.

Those headline impact figures and partner payouts cover the year ending June 2026. Other findings on the page use different periods, including calendar 2025. Cite the period attached to the particular statistic, rather than treating the entire report as one calendar-year dataset.

What an app founder can do with it

Our recommendation is to use the report as ecosystem context in a pitch or planning document, then build the business case from your own customers. A large market does not establish demand for a particular product, its retention rate or the cost of acquiring a merchant.

Keep a separate evidence sheet for interviews, paid conversions, churn and support workload. That makes it easier to explain which parts of the opportunity are measured in your business and which are broad platform context.
