Shopify disables its leave-store confirmation screen
Shopify confirms its external-link warning is disabled. Older help pages still describe it; no return date or trusted-domain controls are confirmed.
Shopify has disabled the confirmation screen that asked shoppers whether they wanted to leave a store for an external website. In a 22 October developer forum reply, Shopify staff member Blair Beckwith confirmed the change and said the company was still working through its approach. He gave no return date or specific replacement design.

Why older instructions can mislead
The 20 October launch announcement describes protection against unexpected redirects. The Help Centre guide explains the screen’s original purpose: allowing a customer to inspect a destination before potentially following code to a fake checkout or phishing website.
At our 23 October check, that guide still described the message and said merchants could not turn it off or choose destinations that bypassed it. The later staff announcement establishes the changed operating status. Do not treat older launch instructions as confirmation that the warning is currently active, or that a trusted-domain setting is available.
Legitimate journeys were part of the problem
Beckwith acknowledged examples involving international storefronts, headless stores, returns portals and partner websites. He said Shopify was balancing protection against malicious redirects with avoiding unnecessary interruptions to legitimate customer journeys.
The statement does not confirm whether a future version will include trusted domains. Claims about a relaunch date or a particular replacement control would go beyond the evidence currently available.

What merchants should do now
Our recommendation is to test important customer journeys directly: regional store switches, returns, booking services and any external purchase links. Keep a record of intended destinations and investigate an unexpected destination rather than assuming a missing warning means a link is safe.
If you report an issue, include the page, the action taken, the destination and a screenshot. The absence of this screen is not evidence that an app or theme is free from malicious code. Continue the checks in our Shopify app security action checklist.
Avoid installing an unofficial script simply to suppress the screen described in older reports. First establish the current behaviour and ask Shopify Support about the specific journey. This article reports the platform statement; it is not a security assessment of an individual store.
