Royal Mail pickup points arrive at Shopify checkout
UK merchants can add Royal Mail collection at checkout. Check eligible orders, payment restrictions and the 18-day collection window.
UK Shopify merchants can now offer Royal Mail pickup points at checkout. Shopify’s 15 October announcement adds Royal Mail as a provider, letting shoppers choose a collection location from a map or list and see its address, opening hours and price before ordering.
This is delivery to a carrier collection point, rather than collection from your own shop. It gives customers another way to receive a parcel, but it does not appear for every checkout.
Turn on Royal Mail for an eligible location
In Settings → Shipping and delivery, open Pickup points under Additional delivery methods. Select a UK location, enable Ship to pickup points from this location, then edit the rate to include Royal Mail and choose the customer charge.
Shopify’s setup guidance allows flat, weight or price based rates. Save the configuration after selecting the providers. Decide the charge using your own delivery costs and margin; the feature does not make pickup delivery automatically cheaper.
Check which orders qualify
All physical items must be shippable from one location with enough inventory for the whole order. B2B checkout is excluded. Shopify also says pickup points are unavailable with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay or PayPal accelerated checkout. A full pickup point is hidden until capacity becomes available.
Carrier pickup orders cannot be edited after placement. Check those constraints before advertising collection as an option for every customer, particularly if you use several fulfilment locations.
Local Collect and the return journey
The Royal Mail documentation identifies Local Collect on Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 as the services used. Collection locations include Post Office branches and Royal Mail Customer Service Points. Merchants cannot choose which type is offered.
Check the route before buying labels: Shopify’s carrier accounts do not support label purchases for shipments from Great Britain to Northern Ireland. The documentation directs merchants needing that route to a carrier or an app that supports it.
A practical launch check
Our recommendation is to test an eligible cart through ordinary checkout, then compare it with the accelerated payment routes your shoppers use. Confirm that the collection price, location details and customer notifications are understandable.
Give your support team a clear process for an uncollected parcel returning to the business. Keep collection instructions distinct from home delivery messages, and decide how you will handle the returned order before promoting the option during peak season.
