Shopify Sidekick adds checkout and accounts guidance

Sidekick can explain saved checkout settings and guide merchants to the right controls. It cannot edit, save or publish the configuration.

Shopify has brought Sidekick into its desktop checkout and accounts editor. The 13 October announcement adds help with settings, app recommendations and Help Center searches while merchants work on their checkout or customer account configuration.

The practical benefit is having guidance beside the task. It does not remove the need to make and review the change yourself.

Where to open it

On desktop, go to Settings → Checkout, choose Edit beside the configuration, then select the Sidekick icon in the editor menu bar.

According to Shopify’s documentation, the assistant can explain colours, fonts and layout, identify installed app blocks and their applicable markets, and link to relevant editor sections. It can also explain steps such as adding a block or hiding a section.

Sidekick reads saved settings only. It cannot edit, save or publish this configuration. Unsaved changes will not be reflected in its answers; review changes before saving them yourself.

Help inside Checkout Blocks, too

Shopify also says Sidekick can explain and help plan blocks and functions in Checkout Blocks. That includes blocks on checkout, thank you and order status pages, plus explanations of payment, delivery and validation functions. It can help merchants understand an existing setup and find the settings needed to change it.

Our suggested starting point is one specific question about the configuration in front of you, rather than a broad request to improve conversion. For example, ask which blocks are installed and where they apply, then compare the answer with the editor.

Review the intended result before saving. If you are experimenting, check which configuration you are editing before making changes; assistance with navigation is not evidence that a particular checkout change will improve sales.
