Reddit tests search ads with selected advertisers
Reddit is testing adverts in search results. Here is what is confirmed, what remains unspecified and what merchants should ask before joining.
Reddit is testing adverts on its search results pages with a select group of eligible advertisers. The 3 November announcement describes an initial experiment using existing ad targeting, with contextual relevance to a search query among the factors that can determine which ads appear.
For ecommerce teams, this is a placement to watch rather than a broadly available campaign launch to put into this week’s media plan.
What Reddit has shown
The company’s illustration shows a home-office advert beside search results for a home-office setup. Its announcement also gives an espresso-related search as an example of a query that could surface coffee equipment or accessory adverts.

The announcement does not specify keyword bidding, a general release date, participating markets or placement-level reporting. It would be premature to describe this as a Google-style keyword campaign product.
Questions to settle before testing
Our suggested checklist for an invited advertiser:
- Confirm access: ask whether your account and target markets are eligible for this particular test.
- Understand delivery: establish which targeting controls apply and whether you can identify search-placement impressions separately.
- Define success: agree on spend, attribution and the order or lead quality you will evaluate before a campaign begins.
- Check the destination: send people to a page that answers the product question in the advert, with price, availability and delivery information easy to find.
Those are planning questions, not controls Reddit has promised in the announcement. A relevant-looking search placement is not evidence of profitable acquisition.
A separate development from login tests
This announcement concerns advertising inventory inside Reddit search. It does not settle access rules for visitors following search-engine results or shared links. Keep those customer-access checks separate from a paid-placement experiment.
