Shop Promise changes: eligibility, badges and guarantees
Shop Promise is changing gradually. Check which programme your store uses, which products qualify and when the old late-delivery guarantee ends.
Shopify is expanding Shop Promise, but merchants should check which version their store uses before changing delivery claims. The 28 October Fall Edition announcement describes broader eligibility and says badged products can rank higher in Shop and Shopify Catalog. That is a platform claim, not a guaranteed sales increase for an individual store.
The more immediate operational change is in the activation and transition guide: the updated programme is rolling out gradually, with different treatment of the old late-delivery guarantee.
First identify which programme you have
Updated controls live in Settings → Shipping and delivery. If yours remain under the Shop channel’s Promise page, Shopify says the older programme still applies. The new programme covers US domestic orders.
After a store moves, new orders no longer receive the previous US$5 Shop Cash limited delivery guarantee. Qualifying earlier orders retain it: claims must be within 30 days of the first attempted delivery and submitted by 16 December 2026. Direct customers to Shop’s help guidance for the exact claim conditions.
Store eligibility is different from a product badge
The updated eligibility guide requires an active Shopify plan, a US fulfilment location serving US orders, Shop Pay, tracking on at least 90% of eligible orders and an account in good standing. Eligibility is reassessed daily.
Products are then assessed separately. Trusted delivery depends on category-level fulfilment performance and automated delivery dates. Returns badges depend on the applicable return rules. Free returns means no return-shipping charge or restocking fee for the customer; Shopify does not pay for the return. One product losing a benefit does not necessarily pause the whole store.
For example, do not describe every item as having free returns merely because a badge appears on one product. Review the actual rules for each range, including final-sale items.
A practical check before peak trading
Our recommendation is to record the date your store moves, then update support replies that mention Shop Cash. Separate earlier-order claims from enquiries about new orders. Keep delivery estimates, return charges and the written policy consistent with what buyers actually see.
Preview representative product pages and checkout before promoting the badge. Include products with different return rules and delivery performance. This is a documentation-based review, not a test of a merchant installation. Treat any discovery benefit as something to measure alongside fulfilment quality and returns cost, rather than a reason to promise service you cannot deliver.
