Shopify BFCM 2026 checklist: seven checks before launch

Test discounts, notifications, returns, stock, delivery, app dependencies and product data before your Black Friday and Cyber Monday campaign.

Before increasing Black Friday and Cyber Monday traffic, rehearse the purchase your customer will actually make. The useful checks are concrete: the final discount, the available delivery option, the return window, the confirmation email and the route to support.

This checklist brings together Shopify’s current documentation and October operational advice. It is a preparation guide, not a claim that every listed feature is newly available or enabled on every store.

1. Test the complete offer in a cart

Try the promoted product with your automatic offer, welcome code and shipping discount. Check the final total as well as the banner copy. Shopify says each discount must allow the relevant combination; eligibility and discount classes also matter. Do not assume that creating two offers makes them stack.

Shopify developer Mohamed El-Ghorfi highlighted this checkout check on 16 October. Our recommendation is to record the expected result for each test cart so staff can distinguish an intended exclusion from a configuration mistake.

2. Read the messages after checkout

Open your order and shipping notifications on a phone. Follow the policy and support links, and remove stale promotional copy. El-Ghorfi’s email review reminder is a useful prompt, not evidence that your own templates contain errors.

His related posts recommend preparing delivery delay responses and testing the damaged-item support journey. Rehearse that journey with your team using a clearly identified test case. Assign an owner to update delivery messages when circumstances change.

3. Check the return rule for the actual sale item

Shopify’s return window overrides can give selected merchandise a different window. When several overrides match, the shortest applies; final-sale settings take precedence in Shopify’s eligibility logic. Check that your store has the relevant controls, then compare ordinary items, promotional collections and overlapping selections. Our return-rule guide explains the matching order and the separate review of written policy.

4. Count stock and choose the right completion action

Updated 21 October 2026. Shopify now documents counting in admin as well as POS Pro. In the admin workflow, Request review sends quantities for checking before inventory changes; Complete count changes inventory immediately without that review. Neither completion nor approval can be undone through the count workflow. Agree who checks discrepancies before staff finish a count.

For staff counting in the POS app, Shopify describes requesting review and then approving in admin; the location requires POS Pro. The September POS release specified version 11.16 or later. Do not assume that the admin workflow always enforces that separate review step. Our updated stock-count guide explains the distinction.

5. Rehearse delivery by location and market

Local delivery in POS uses configured zones and rates and requires POS Pro, version 11.16 or later, and location setup. Staff need the appropriate creation and fulfilment permissions. Every physical item in a local-delivery order must be delivered; it cannot mix shipping or pickup. See our POS workflow guide.

For online orders, test representative addresses and baskets. Shopify’s market-driven shipping announcement describes a staged rollout beginning 1 October 2026 and ending by 1 July 2027. Confirm the configuration your store actually uses rather than assuming every merchant switched at once.

6. Ask app providers about remaining ScriptTags

Shopify’s ScriptTag timeline separates two dates: creation and updates stopped on 1 October 2026, while existing storefront tags stop being injected on 1 March 2027. Ask providers which integrations still depend on them and agree a migration and testing plan. Shopify points to app embed blocks, or web pixels for analytics-only scripts.

ℹ️
Do not confuse the dates. Existing storefront ScriptTags did not all stop running on 1 October. The injection cutoff is 1 March 2027. Treat migration as planned work, not a reason to remove unknown integrations during peak trading.

7. Review the product data AI channels receive

Check titles, variants, images, availability and current prices before a promotion. Shopify’s Catalog guidance explains eligibility, data mapping and the option to share compare-at prices. A clean feed is preparation for accurate discovery; it does not guarantee an AI recommendation or a sale.

Turn the checklist into a small test log: item, expected result, actual result, owner and resolution date. Repeat the affected checks after changing an app, theme, offer or delivery rule. The goal is to find mismatches before customers do.

Additional storefront checks: 18 October 2026

Try the words customers actually use. Repeat important searches on your storefront and check whether useful products appear. Shopify’s current Search & Discovery guidance says semantic understanding uses product information, including titles, descriptions, categories and tags. Review that information and the actual results before changing search settings. Do not assume that an older synonym-group tutorial matches the current interface.

Review accelerated checkout. For Shopify Payments stores, the Shop Pay activation guide directs merchants to Settings → Payments → Shopify Payments → Manage. Confirm the intended setup with the person responsible for payments. Shopify says Shop Pay cannot be tested with a simulated order: its documented test uses a real purchase followed by cancellation and refund. Plan that with your team rather than expecting test mode to exercise it.

Check promotional copy after every phase. Our recommendation is to assign an owner to remove expired early-access offers, update popups and check shipping promises when the promotion changes. Review a sale price on the product page, in the cart and at checkout, then verify the intended price after the promotion ends.

For paid traffic, our Google Ads channel-priority guide explains the new allocation controls and their limits. These are checks to plan, not a reason to change every campaign during peak trading.

Bundle checkout check: 18 October 2026

On 15 October, Kaching said it was gradually rolling out express checkout support for Kaching Bundles. According to its announcement, Shop Pay, Apple Pay and Buy it now remain visible after bundle selection and carry the whole offer, including its discount, into checkout. The vendor says merchants can ask support about earlier activation; do not assume every installation already has it.

Our recommendation for any bundle app is to check the selected variants, quantities and final discount through both the ordinary cart route and each available accelerated checkout route, especially on mobile. Record the expected result before testing. This is a compatibility check, not evidence of a conversion increase or a guarantee about another app.
