Shopify rebuilds its mobile app for iOS and Android
The merchant app has a native rebuild and a fresh design. Shopify reports faster startup; check everyday order and inventory workflows on your team’s phones.
Shopify has rebuilt its merchant mobile app in native technology for iOS and Android, with a redesigned interface and faster startup. For teams handling orders away from a desk, the practical question is how the new app performs on the phones and workflows they use during peak trading.
In a 30 October announcement, Mustafa Ali, Shopify’s head of mobile, said launch time had fallen on both platforms and by more than half on Android. He also described smoother interactions and Liquid Glass on iOS. The startup figure is Shopify’s reported result, not an independent benchmark across merchants’ devices.
What has changed
The Fall ’26 Editions page confirms the native app for both platforms, describing faster performance, smoother navigation and a fresh design. Design director Marvin Schwaibold’s accompanying announcement highlights changes to gestures, animations, haptics and interaction consistency.
This is the Shopify app used to manage a business. It is separate from the consumer Shop shopping app. The rebuild announcement concerns the merchant interface; it does not establish a speed improvement for customers visiting a store’s website.
Rehearse the work your team does on a phone
Shopify’s mobile product page lists order management, fulfilment, inventory updates and analytics among the app’s functions. The app is included with a Shopify plan without a separate app subscription. Those existing capabilities provide a useful test list; they are not all new features of this rebuild.
Our recommendation is to open a representative order, find its payment and fulfilment status, locate a product and check the inventory information your team relies on. Compare the navigation with any internal instructions or screenshots. Use a test workflow for changes that would affect stock or an actual customer order.
If staff open third-party apps from mobile admin, include those routes in the rehearsal. A native interface announcement does not prove compatibility with every installed app. Record the phone model, operating-system version, app version and steps if something behaves differently, so support has a reproducible report.
Do this before a busy shift. A faster launch is useful, but the relevant operational check is whether staff can finish their usual task accurately. For the wider promotion rehearsal, see our BFCM checklist.
