Shopify removes mass-submitted apps; limits are next
Submission limits are coming, but the announcement supplies no numerical cap or effective date.
Shopify has unpublished hundreds of App Store listings from a small group of high-volume submitters, according to Shopify’s Blair Beckwith. He said the apps had no merchant installs and announced that restrictions on simultaneous submissions would follow.
The 29 October statement frames the action as a response to mass submissions that distract from useful merchant products. It does not identify the affected apps, provide an exact removal count, or set out the forthcoming submission cap.
What app teams can act on now
The removal has happened; the detailed limits remain unannounced in this statement. There is no published numerical cap or effective date in it to put into a release plan.
Our recommendation is to keep each submission’s distinct merchant use case, working functionality and support information clear. This announcement concerns mass submissions and apps with no installs. It does not establish that every removed app was AI-generated, malicious or part of the earlier security incidents. Nor does it demonstrate a platform-wide review waiting time.
For merchants, the statement gives no reason to uninstall an app solely because another listing disappeared. Assess the particular app, developer and support evidence. For app founders, fewer listings do not guarantee better search placement or more installations.

Today we unpublished hundreds of apps from the App Store. They came from a small group of high-volume submitters and had no merchant installs.
