Instagram to Shop sync: check automatic publishing
Instagram content can sync into shoppable posts in the Shop app. Review the publishing default and older promotions before connecting an account.
Shopify’s Fall Edition highlights a way to reuse Instagram content as shoppable posts in the Shop app. The useful question for a merchant is who reviews that content before it reaches another audience.
The Shop posts guide says connecting a Creator or Business Instagram account imports reels, images and carousels from the previous 90 days, including captions. New posts are imported and published automatically by default. Personal Instagram accounts are unsupported.
Choose a review workflow
In Sales channels → Shop → Posts → Manage apps, merchants can change the Publish new posts automatically setting. Disabling it leaves new imports unpublished for manual review. Staff need Marketing permission to manage posts. Shopify says these posts appear in the Shop app, not on shop.com.
Before connecting, our recommendation is to review the recent Instagram archive for expired promotions, time-sensitive captions and products that are no longer available. A post that made sense to followers during a launch might confuse someone discovering the brand weeks later.
Assign someone to check the destination posts, not just the Instagram originals. Start with a small selection, inspect captions and product links in Shop, and make sure the team knows who can unpublish a mistaken promotion. Keep a record of the publishing setting so a staff handover does not silently change the review process.
Keep the direction of the integration clear
This brings Instagram content into Shop. It is distinct from Instagram Shopping, which lets eligible businesses tag catalogue products on Instagram and directs customers to their online store to buy.
Measure whether the reused content brings useful product visits and orders before increasing volume. Automatic distribution saves a publishing step; it does not establish that the creative, offer or audience is a good match. We have verified the documentation, not connected a merchant account or tested its imported posts.
